At 3 Trees, our approach to care is guided by our vision to make a positive and meaningful impact for both the people we support and our team. Through our values (Poetry in Devotion) we strive to provide care that is dignified, enjoyable, visible, outcome-driven, inclusive, and outstanding.

We know that meaningful activities are not “extras” - they are essential to wellbeing, independence, and inclusion. Every day, our dedicated staff enable service users to take part in experiences that enrich their lives and help them flourish.

Below, we share some of the ways we make this happen.

Visiting Places of Interest

Being based in Bristol means we are surrounded by a rich variety of attractions and beautiful locations to explore and we certainly make the most of them! Our outings often include popular destinations such as:

  • Bristol Zoo Project – where people can experience wildlife conservation up close, learn about animals, and enjoy the fresh air in a safe, accessible environment.

  • Longleat – offering a unique mix of safari park adventure, stately home history, and beautiful gardens to explore.

  • Portishead – perfect for a relaxing day by the marina or seafront, taking in the views and enjoying local cafés.

  • Cinema trips – for a shared cultural experience, whether it’s the latest blockbuster, a feel-good comedy, or even a scary horror film!

  • Wookey Hole Caves – an opportunity to combine history, nature, and adventure in a fascinating setting.

  • City Farms – such as St Werburgh’s or Windmill Hill City Farm, where we can interact with animals, learn about sustainability, and enjoy the community atmosphere.

These trips aren’t just about “getting out of the house”, they’re about connection: with the wider community, with nature, and with each other. They encourage social interaction, spark curiosity, and build confidence in navigating new environments.

Every outing is planned with the individual in mind. Preferences, accessibility needs, and personal goals are all considered. Risk assessments and staff support ensure each person can take part safely and comfortably, while still enjoying a sense of freedom and choice.

For many of the people we support, these experiences bring joy, new learning opportunities, and treasured memories that contribute to overall wellbeing and quality of life.

Community Events

Bristol is a vibrant, lively city with a packed events calendar and at 3 Trees, we love making the most of it. Attending local events gives the people we support the chance to be part of something bigger, share experiences with others, and connect with the energy of our community. We attend many events, some of which include:

  • Local music festivals – from small community gatherings to larger outdoor events, music is a wonderful way to bring people together and create shared enjoyment.

  • Car shows – perfect for motoring enthusiasts or anyone who enjoys the excitement of seeing classic and unique vehicles up close.

  • Christmas fayres and seasonal markets – offering festive cheer, craft stalls, delicious food, and the opportunity to be immersed in the sights, sounds, and smells of the season.

These occasions are about more than entertainment, they help build social confidence, encourage community participation, and offer moments of joy that people remember long after the event has ended.

Promoting Independence

Independence is at the heart of person-centred care and at 3 Trees, we see every day as an opportunity to help people gain confidence, develop skills, and take ownership of their own lives. The level of support may vary, but the goal is always the same: to empower each individual to do as much as possible for themselves.

We break this down into practical, everyday activities that build life skills and personal pride:

  • Daily Shopping – Visiting local supermarkets, farm shops, and high street stores allows people to make their own choices, compare prices, and manage money. We encourage planning shopping lists, checking for the best deals, and engaging with shop staff to promote confidence in social interactions.

  • Haircuts & Grooming – Trips to local barbers or salons are about more than appearance - they’re a chance to express personal style and boost self-esteem. Choosing a hairstyle, speaking with the stylist, and maintaining personal care all contribute to a positive self-image.

  • Nail Care – Whether at home or at a salon, maintaining clean, neat nails is part of personal wellbeing and can also be a relaxing, confidence-boosting experience.

  • Washing Up & Household Tasks – Helping with chores like washing up, tidying rooms, or doing laundry reinforces daily living skills and promotes a sense of responsibility.

  • Meal Preparation – From making a sandwich to cooking a full dinner, we encourage participation in preparing food. This helps with learning about nutrition, safe cooking practices, and the satisfaction of creating something from scratch.

Our staff provide the right balance between support and independence, offering guidance where needed, but stepping back to allow individuals to take the lead. This approach builds self-reliance, reduces dependence on others, and instils the confidence to tackle new challenges.

By encouraging independence in small, everyday tasks, we help people develop the skills, confidence, and resilience to live life on their own terms.

Hiking & Walking

Independence is at the heart of person-centred care and at 3 Trees, we see every day as an opportunity to help people gain confidence, develop skills, and take ownership of their own lives. The level of support may vary, but the goal is always the same: to empower each individual to do as much as possible for themselves.

Walking and hiking are simple yet powerful activities that bring countless benefits improving physical health, boosting mood, and offering a sense of freedom. At 3 Trees, we believe getting outdoors and exploring the world around us is an important part of a balanced, fulfilling life.

Being based in Bristol gives us access to a wide variety of scenic walking routes suitable for all abilities. Some of our favourite spots include:

  • Leigh Woods – with its peaceful forest trails and stunning views across the Avon Gorge and Clifton Suspension Bridge.

  • Ashton Court Estate – a mix of open parkland and woodland walks, plus the chance to see the resident deer.

  • Blaise Castle Estate – offering gentle paths and historical features, perfect for both short strolls and longer adventures.

  • The Mendip Hills – for those who enjoy a more challenging route, the rolling hills and open landscapes provide a true sense of escape.

  • Weston-Super-Mare & Sand Bay – coastal walks with sea air, wide views, and plenty of space to enjoy nature at a relaxed pace.

We adapt each walk to suit the needs and preferences of the people we support - whether that’s a short, accessible path with rest stops or a longer route for those seeking more exercise.

Walking together isn’t just about exercise, it’s about connection. It’s a time to chat, share experiences, enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, and celebrate achievements, whether that’s reaching the top of a hill or simply enjoying a sunny afternoon outside.

Learning Activities

Learning is a lifelong journey - one that doesn’t stop with age or circumstance. Whether it’s gaining a new skill, building confidence in a familiar task, or exploring a completely new interest, learning is key to personal growth, independence, and wellbeing.

We offer and encourage a wide range of learning opportunities, both in structured and informal settings, including:

  • Cooking Skills – from learning to prepare a healthy breakfast to following a recipe for dinner, cooking sessions help people develop independence and make informed choices about food.

  • Digital Skills – supporting individuals to use smartphones, tablets, or computers for tasks such as video calling family, finding information, or enjoying online hobbies.

  • Creative Arts – painting, crafts, music, and other creative outlets provide opportunities for self-expression and building fine motor skills.

  • Practical Life Skills – such as budgeting, using public transport, or managing appointments, all of which contribute to everyday independence.

  • Community-Based Learning – attending local workshops, classes, or exhibitions in Bristol such as sessions at community centres, museums, or libraries adds variety and real-world experience.

For many, the sense of achievement from learning something new is transformative. It boosts confidence, fosters independence, and inspires people to keep exploring their potential.

Restaurants & Dining

Sharing a meal is one of the most universal ways to connect with others, and at 3 Trees we believe dining experiences - whether at home or out in the community, are an important part of life. They offer not only the enjoyment of good food but also opportunities for social inclusion, skill-building, and personal choice.

In Bristol we have access to a huge variety of eateries, from cosy cafés to family-run restaurants and popular high street favourites. Some of our regular outings include:

  • Local cafés and tea rooms – perfect for a relaxed chat over coffee and cake.

  • Family-friendly restaurants – offering a welcoming atmosphere where people can try new foods and enjoy familiar favourites.

  • Special occasion venues – for birthdays, milestones, or simply celebrating achievements together.

These outings are about more than just eating - they help individuals practise reading menus, placing orders, handling money, and interacting with staff and other diners. For many, these skills build confidence in navigating everyday social situations.

We’ve also seen how dining together can bring people closer. Some of our services have formed strong friendships through these shared experiences, chatting over a meal, discovering favourite foods together, and enjoying the buzz of a new restaurant can create bonds that last well beyond the outing itself. Visiting places of interest and dining as a group cultivates stronger relationships, encourages mutual support, and helps people feel truly part of a community.
