A learning disability and a learning difficulty are not the same thing.

A learning disability can affect how someone understands new or complex information, develops skills and manages aspects of everyday life. It is lifelong, although every person’s abilities, experiences and support needs are different.

A learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, may affect a particular area of learning; such as reading, writing or coordination but does not affect general intellectual ability. A person may experience both.

Understanding the difference helps us to challenge misconceptions and provide support that recognises each person’s individual strengths, choices and aspirations.

Shirley has worked tirelessly with D's GP, persistently seeking answers about his ongoing health concerns. Thanks to her oversight, professional curiosity and relentless advocacy, D has now received a diagnosis and is finally accessing the treatment he needs. Without that persistence, he may have continued to experience unnecessary discomfort.

One of our favourite questions during interviews at 3 Trees is:

"If you could share one message or quote with the world, what would it be?"

The responses are always unique, often revealing the values, passions and perspectives that help shape who we are.

Today's quote is a joyful one:

"A day without dancing is a day lost!"

At first glance, it might seem like a simple celebration of dancing, but the message goes much deeper. It's a reminder to embrace joy, make time for the things we love, and not allow life's responsibilities to overshadow the moments that make us feel alive.

Whether dancing means moving to music, spending time with friends, enjoying a hobby, laughing with colleagues, or simply appreciating the present moment, it's often these experiences that bring colour, connection and meaning to our lives.

In social care, we see every day how important enjoyment, self-expression and meaningful activities are for wellbeing. Sometimes the most valuable moments are not the big milestones, but the smiles, laughter and shared experiences along the way.

This week, we're proud to be supporting Learning Disability Week, an annual campaign led by Mencap that shines a light on the experiences, achievements and voices of people with learning disabilities.

For many years, Mencap has used Learning Disability Week to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions and encourage a more inclusive society where people with learning disabilities are valued, respected and given equal opportunities to thrive.

At 3 Trees, this is a message that strongly resonates with us. Every day, we have the privilege of supporting incredible individuals to pursue their goals, build relationships, engage with their communities and live meaningful lives on their own terms.

Learning Disability Week is an opportunity to celebrate what people with learning disabilities can do, rather than focusing on what they cannot. It is also a reminder that inclusion is about more than access, it's about belonging, being heard and having the same opportunities as everyone else.

🌴☀️ A Smile Behind the Blur ☀️🌴

This wonderful photo was taken during a family holiday to Thailand, where our main man enjoyed some well-deserved time away with his mum. Surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters, dramatic cliffs and glorious sunshine, it certainly looks like an adventure to remember.

As a care provider, we are committed to respecting people's privacy and dignity, which is why we often blur the faces of the people we support when sharing photographs. While this is important, it does sometimes hide one of the best parts of the picture - the huge smiles and genuine happiness behind it!

Trust us when we say that this photo captured exactly that.

We're delighted that he had the opportunity to enjoy such a fantastic experience with his family, creating memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime. Moments like these remind us of the importance of relationships, adventure, belonging and experiencing all that life has to offer.
